Review: 2018 Nissan Frontier

If you're in Charlottesville and need a new pickup, your Colonial Nissan dealer has just the thing. The 2018 Nissan Frontier comes in an array of different trims, so there's sure to be one to suit your every need - whether you're looking for something basic and utilitarian or luxurious and high-tech.

Below is our full review of this versatile truck, so read on to see which model is right for you:

Capacity and Performance

The 2018 Frontier has five trims and three configurations: S (King Cab or Crew Cab), SV 4-Cyl/V6 (King, Crew, or Crew Cab Long Bed), Pro-4X (King or Crew Cab), SL (Crew Cab), and Desert Runner (King or Crew Cab). King Cabs can seat up to four passengers, and Crew Cabs accommodate up to five. In most models, the truck bed is 59.5 inches long, but the SV trim comes with the option for a 73.3-inch long bed. A basic model of the Frontier can tow up to 3,780 pounds, while a fully equipped model has a maximum towing capacity of 6,480 pounds.

Additionally, you have two engine options: the base is a 2.5-liter inline-4 that makes 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, with either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. You can also upgrade to a 4.0-liter V6 engine that makes 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, with 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. The latter model also comes available with all-wheel drive.

Convenience and Entertainment

Standard comfort and convenience features include a 5-inch color display, Siri Eyes Free, a RearView Monitor, Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System and streaming audio, USB port, cruise control, and a 4-speaker audio system. Base models also include manually adjustable seating, a forward-facing rear flip-up seat, and cloth trim. One trim up adds power doors and windows, remote keyless entry, and Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

If you're opting for an upper trim, ask you Colonial Nissan dealer about the Nissan Navigation System, NissanConnect Mobile Apps, Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, Sirius XM Traffic and Travel Link, dual-zone automatic climate control, and HomeLink universal transceiver. Premium seating includes leather-appointed surfaces, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, or embroidered cloth trim. Upper trims also feature a Rockford Fosgate audio system with 10 speakers and subwoofer.

Safety and Security

Each model of the 2018 Frontier has the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage supplemental front air bags and occupant classification sensors, as well as side- and roof-mounted air bags. To keep you in control, the Nissan truck also has Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System and Active Brake Limited Slip. Upper trims feature a Rear Sonar System and Vehicle Security System.
